I’ve come to Kenya with VSO (Voluntary Service Overseas) for one year to work as a Fundraising Advisor for a local NGO based in Nairobi. This blog is a mixture of stories from my day-to-day life (which isn’t always a smooth ride) and stories about the inspiring, incredible efforts being made by so many people to make everyone’s else’s lives a bit smoother. All in the name of development.
VSO is a UK based charity that works to tackle the causes of poverty overseas by sending professional volunteers to share their skills. This blog represents my own opinions, not theirs!
As a professional fundraiser I’m working for a local charity in Nairobi helping the staff to be better able to fundraise for the vital resources they need to carry out their work. The charity supports young people across Kenya of which there are many! 78% of the population is under the age of 35 and the challenges they face are huge. 60% of unemployed people in Kenya are under the age of 30 and critical health issues such as HIV/ AIDS affect them disproportionately.
